• We are seeking an experienced Staff Engineer to join our Data Substrate team. In this role, you will be responsible for architecting scalable and reliable data solutions, collaborating closely with cross-functional partners driving technical innovation, and mentoring a team of talented engineers. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in data systems, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record of delivering complex data projects at scale.

• Serve as a subject matter expert in distributed systems, data technologies, with strong software engineering skills
• Architect and implement scalable and efficient data systems, storage solutions, and processing frameworks using state-of-the-art technologies
• Drive technical innovation and research to stay at the forefront of emerging data technologies and best practices
• Mentor and coach a team of talented engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into scalable and efficient technical solutions
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and security throughout the data lifecycle, adhering to industry best practices and compliance standards

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• 8+ years of software development experience, with a focus on data infrastructure
• Proven track record of architecting and delivering complex, large-scale data projects
• Strong expertise in big data components such as Kafka, Clickhouse, Spark and other distributed computing systems
• Strong expertise with orchestrating, scaling, and managing containerized applications in production environments using Kubernetes (K8s) and Terraform/Helm
• Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale data platforms on cloud computing systems like AWS
• Proficiency in Python, Java, Bash, and Go with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence technical roadmaps and drive alignment across cross-functional teams
• Proven leadership experience in mentoring and developing engineers
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and deliver high-impact results
• Knowledge of tying into various authorization/authentication systems
• Networking and network security knowledge
• Deep expertise in Clickhouse: demonstrated experience in architecting, tuning, and operating Clickhouse at scale

• This role will be remote, and based in the United States
• This role will be remote but is not eligible to be hired in San Francisco, CA, Oakland, CA, San Jose, CA, or the surrounding areas

• For this role, you may be required to travel occasionally to participate in project or team in-person meetings

• The information below is provided for candidates hired in those locations only
• The estimated pay ranges for this role are as follows
• Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont or Washington D.C : $171,120-$213,900
• This role may be eligible to participate in Twilio’s equity plan and corporate bonus plan
• All roles are eligible for the following benefits: health care insurance, 401(k) retirement account, paid sick time, paid personal time off, paid parental leave
• The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and geographic location within the state
